Prison Ministry at Orange County Correctional Facility

Monthly Ministry for Male Inmates

 Sponsor Refugees  
...Churches and Individuals needed to assist in sponsoring Burmese families.  Many of these are Karens. Several years ago, Yates Baptist Association began a new church among the Karens living within the area as well as a

Adopt A School
...meet with the principal to ascertain needs. Principals are always aware of many needs.  Included in these will be notebooks, pencils, paper, etc.  Underwear is a need in many elementary schools. During the summer months, purchase school back packs and fill them with school supplies. Deliver to the school for distribution by the counselors. Lead a Prayer Walk around the school. Hold prayer meeting at church for your adopted school.  Volunteers are helpful in all schools. 

Apartment Ministries
...school supplies and craft supplies for ministries in apartment complexes.  Please deliver to the YBA Resource Center, 2100 Chapel Hill Road, Durham.  ...volunteers needed.  Call Michael Bond at 489-3396 or email

Medical-Dental Bus
...dentists and dental assistants needed.
...health care kits (instructions available from the YBA Resource Center).

Durham Rescue Mission
...volunteers to assist with serving meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Volunteers are necessary throughout the year. Call Volunteer Coordinator
at 688-9641

Rescued Treasure Thrift Shoppe, 3220 NC Hwy 55S
(corner of Hwy 55 and Cornwallis Road), 9am - 6pm, Mon-Sat. Volunteers
need to help process donations. For more information call 688-9641,

Homestart, Chapel Hill (emergency shelter for homeless women and children)
...volunteers to provide on site services during business hours (9am-6pm,
Mon-Fri). Also volunteers (day and night) needed to assist with children's
activities, meals, tutoring, etc. Call 932-6025.
